For over 30 years, the Curran family has lived on the lake surrounded by beautiful natural elements of wood and water. When it came time to transform their home, the vision was to bring the outdoor elements in and create a bright and airy space for their family and guests.
The Signature feature of this home is the foyer with a fully custom, curved glass and wood staircase. Made of hickory wood, which features throughout the home, the light colour instantly brightens the area and will continue to add character as the wood darkens naturally over time.
Creating this staircase required completely removing the existing stair structure, reframing and opening the ceiling, and redesigning the second level of the home.
The feature wall of the main entry-way is covered from floor to ceiling with thin porcelain tile. It was built and customized to the millimeter so the tiles did not require any cutting. The feature wall houses a cozy and welcoming gas fireplace and hickory wood hearth.
The porcelain tile wraps around the feature wall into the living room, encasing the original wood-burning fireplace.
KITCHEN & MAIN FLOOR
Throughout the home you will find that each room accentuates its inspiration. From large windows and glass doors, the home invites the outdoors in.
The home’s transformation first started with the kitchen, which took place over 8 years ago.
This timeless contemporary kitchen features two-toned cabinetry that conceals appliances like the main fridge and dishwasher.
The large windows and vaulted ceilings open up the kitchen and dining space to feature the best views of the home.
What was once the kitchen is now a spacious dining room that flows from the kitchen and into the foyer.
Every space in this home embodies the bright and airy vision, including the mudroom and laundry room.
As you transition up to the second floor, natural light streams in through the windows and skylight to highlight the details of the hickory wood. A large barn-wood door opens into the master oasis where the natural elements and brightness carry through.
The master suite features a custom walk-in closet with custom cabinetry to maximize the home’s original lines.
The master bath features heated counter tops, a glass enclosed steam shower with heated bench, (continued in next picture)...
From spa-like amenities to a quiet and cozy corner to read a book, this master oasis features everything you could want for a bedroom retreat.
Redesigning the staircase also meant an opportunity to create a haven just for their guests. This included transforming guest rooms, a guest bath expansion and an office nook looking over the staircase.
As you transition to the second floor, the master oasis is accessible through the modern barn doors and two bedrooms and expanded bathroom were created to accommodate guests.
During this renovation, the guest bathroom expanded to accommodate a hotel-like bathroom for guests. Details including a doorless, glass shower and light marbled tile help make this space look even more airy for maximum guest comfort.
Two identical bedrooms offer a bright and cozy retreat for guests as well as a beautiful view of the lake.
